5 day trip!

Dear all,

The english version of the 5 day trip :)

The trip took place from 29/4 untill 3/5

29/4
We were supposed to leave at 6.30am so ready and packed I was on time at the neighbours place. So was everybody else. Unfortunatly the guide wasn't on time. We phone him, and ' I'm just packing, I 'll be there soon. At 8am! we left. Yes it is still Suriname way ;)

With pick-up and minibus we leave Paramaribo. Afther 1.5h of drive we leave town behind us. No more stone ways only bauxite ways. And we pass some indian villages, charming and strange at the same time.. The people here can live perfectly with a mimum of comfort. And we allready complain if the internet is slow our the mobile doesn't want to work.. Nice to see how those people live.

Afther 3h of driving we stop to get a good lunch. And all this surrounded by great natur.

Another 4h to go untill destination, but them flies. I don't even have the possibility to sleep, read or write something done because it is very bobbely.. But I just enjoy the natur and realize again I'm in the jungle, not used to it yet...

Afther 7.5h of driving we arrive at Apoera. We spend the time at a very charming hut, with a large kitchen, luxery shower and toilet! :) Afther a nice dinner and some card games we get into our hammock. Verry tired hoping for a good nights rest.

30/4

We were going to leave early this morning but again we only had breakfast at 9am and we finally left at 11am. Because of the bad weather we had to change our plans and instead of going to Cabalebo we went to Blanche Marie. Again we had to go on the bobbely road untill some point we go left into a very narrow path. The nature was growing very close and it was so small to drive trough! Yes I was in the jungle :)

Afther a 2h drive we arrive at Blanche Marie, goodbye luxery! We have some hammock space but the sanitary is terrible. But I just think, well now it is really back to basic. We will survive :) But against the small luxery we have a great view, again we sleep at a river side. It was great to hear the sound of the river. We decide to go and swim, we take our stuff and walk for 15min. And then we see the great waterfalls! Probably everybody has seen some, but it stay a miracle. So so beautifull to see! It was very nice to swim, although once in a while I had a fish biting me. Not plesant. Afther an hour we get back.

At 6pm! we get our lunch. At 9pm we go hunting. The weather is bad, rain, rain, rain, but it has it charms! :) Because of the bad weather we see no animals to shoot, but we can shoot in the tree. Everybody happy ;) At 11.30 pm we get our dinner. And again very exhausted I get into my hammock.

1/5

We leave at 9.30am a miracle! :) We drive for 3hours and arrive at the bakhuismountains. Still in the middle of nowhere. And again we are beside a river. Because we left all our stuff at Blanche Marie one group had to get back. I stayed and we enjoyed a great walk. Straight through the jungle. We see a snack and enjoy the nature we are surrounded by. It is very hard to tell what I saw, I'll put pictures online.

Because we had to wait for the other group the rest of us wanted to try to ride with the pick- up. Hihi very fun to do! :) Fortunatly the rest arrives before dark, so quickly we hang our hammocks (thre is a wooden construction to hang them on) A campfire is made and dinner is served.

Another attempt for hutting! We crawl above, under, and over a lot but it is so dark we have to do a lot just by feeling it. A strange experience :) I think we must of walked 3 hours with no result. We did enjoy the sound of howlers. And other sounds and smells. Again we are just whacked and go to sleep with the sound of rippling wather.

2/5

We wake up we the sound of wather. We have a nice breakfast and we decide to get back to the first place we went to. So we pack the stuff and of we go. Me and Jozefien are aloud to sit in the trunk of the pick-up I really, realy enjoyed this. Now you're really in the nature. Because watching al this in the pick-up gives a totally different dimension.

When we arrive, we eat some bread, install our hammock and take a parrot on our arm. Then we take the boat to British- Guyana. Again I just enjoy this. Afther 1.5h we arrive. Again it strikes me how little luxery there is but how happy the people are. The all live in huts and the elektricity is on from 7am to 11pm. And there is one school for ages 6-12, and it is a on top of the mountain. It is totally different then Suriname, a different culture..

When we arrive at the highest top of the island, palmtrees, beautifull colours, and view on the water the only thing I can think of is: waauww! waking up with this view every day it must be wonderfull! And of course: Migaaaadoooo! I really am in South- America :)

Afther another boatride of a hour and a half and a beautifull sunset we arrive back in Suriname. For dinner we get delicious belgian frittekes, a fresh salade and off course chicken :) We decide to end our trip with a night out and I enjoy the gorgeous starry sky. For the first time in 2 months I really get cold. Totally exhausted and in my warm sleeping bag I try to get some sleep.

3/5

For our last day we drove back to Paramaribo, we did it in 7.5h! I was happy to be home but at the same time it was very strange to be back in town surrounded by al those people. If you have been surrounded by nature for 5 days you really have to get used to all the bussines..

And when I got into my nice soft bed ( I have no complains what so ever about the bed :) ) I remarked that my back got used to sleeping in a hammock :) It really hurt to get to sleep.

Again it was a great great trip. One not to forget! And I realise once more that I am very lucky to be here! :)

Brasa!
