English update

Now my English update of the week, I know I am all ready 7 weeks here but I will start to tell about week 6.



Actually nothing really special happened this week but I think it is nice for you to know how I spend my week..



To start with on monday I go to ML. There as usual nothing really exciting happened. We dit make sur our work from over the past week, such as interviews with the employees, a new intake form, two of our cases, some of our ideas were typed on the computer so we would hand it over very nicely for our evaluation.

On tuesday as always I spend my day at maternity ward. It was very busy and I had to do what a hospital nurse does, washing making beds, a lot of beds... And no education :-( However I did talk to some teenage mum's wich was nice. I mean good to hear there stories and they are happy to tell it. Also I talked to a very nice lady who allready had 7 children, she was pregnant of number 8, she had 4 boys and 3 girls. Off course she wanted her baby to be healty but a 4th girl would make her happines compleet... She didn't gave birth on my service.. To be continued... :-) She also allowed me to feel her tummy as a midwife it is very important that you are able to feel the tummy of the mothers so you can locate the baby. It was fun to able to practice. This lady was so sweet! :-)

On tuesday evening I had a to go on a home visit. We had to convince a man to take an HIV test, his partner has been postive for 7 years and he is very scared to take the test. The also have a little boy for 1.5y and he is negative.. So there is a possibility the man is aswell. Anyway he wasn't home so we have to go back this week wednesday.

On wednesday I started on dermatoloy. Very nice ward. An everybody is really sweet and friendly. I'm also allowed to do a lot by myself. They tell me who is HIV postive and then I go and talk with them. And they tell me their story. They are very open and not embarrassed. Wich is good so I can really work with them.

On thursday a usual ML. Ready to get my evaluation. Off course everything was more then ok. Now we are ready to go on the street and talk to the sexworkers. We are aloud to take care of our cases by our selfs. They let us more free. We also had to do a test and we all succeed! So know we are ready to represent the organisation.

On friday polikliniek. We had a special HIV day for all the seropositief mothers. First they get some explanation about a certain topic, today having children whilst being ill...
Afther that they all get a package with clothes, food, washing powder.. Very intresseting to be able to participate.

On saterday we went swimming in our street we have al pool :)
I also did some schoolwork, some more shopping, and diner! Also I experienced Surinam night life... Very funny! Haha! We went to a 'disco' the music was older then we know. I meand our music this time but then a year behind us. Because you have lady gaga and more..

On sunday the sun was to hot and dangerous to go out side. I did enjoy the nice weather.

This was my week. Hopefully tomorrow I'll tell you more about maternity ward.. =)
