Wedding, counseling, trips..
To start with I'll tell you some more about the wedding, it was a Hindustani wedding. Very different the our weddings. Unfortunatly it was a bit dissapointing.. We arrived and the ceremony just started, but everybody talks and doens't really pay attention to what's happening. The couple stands underneath an arbor (prieel) and therr everything happens. We constantly asked what happend but the people we came with didn't really knew answers to our questions.. So at one poiont people trew flowers , the couple was blessed and married.
After that the had to arrange some stuff, they disapeard and suddenly they were back to do the wedding dance, a traditional slow, as we know. Then we had diner! (It was allready 1am) They told us we ahd to eat with our hands.. Yes papy I know what you are thinking, finally she has permission, but I wasn't so keen on doing that. Because we had to eat rice with al kinds of sauces... Can you imaging?! Jindra and I didn't think it was that easy. And afterwards we realised that we ate with the wrong hand... LEFT! Hmm anyway because we missed atmosphere we decided to leave it at that. I'm happy I saw it. Because these ar the things you can't see at home.
On sunday we went to the pool and relaxed.
On monday another week of workexperience started, nothing very exciting really, except for today. I'm tired of sitting down and not doing anything, I'm in need of action. So every time I try and today I got lucky!! A patient allowed me to follow a counseling session as we call it here. This means you have a talk before the test, you do the test, and the you get to resulst. The patient allowed my to participate in the pre counseling and the testing, she didn't want me to know the result wich I understand and respect. But I was so happy I could she that allready! =)
On friday and saterday I'm going to the jungle! Wihiiie! Brownsberg and Berg en Dal. You should be able to look it up, or wait for my update and pictures. Who ever thought that I would sleep in the jungle in a hammock! :-) I'm so looking forward to that!
And while I'm doing all this and growing up in my own way, I have my little miracle, godchild John growing up aswell. He started to roll over on his tummy and he giggles away! Isn't that to cute. I just wanted to share the news.
I'll put some pictures from the wedding online aswell, not sure when though...
My next update will be afther the weekend!
Enjoy you easter weekend!
Bosio!
Dikke zoen!

I'm sorry it took so long betwen the messages.. But as most of you know the sun hasen't been very nice to me... On sunday I woke up with my face terribly swollen! Realy awfull! I put some ice on whole day and didn't really feel well. I went to see a doctor on monday and she told me that I had 1st and 2nd degree burns... You can imagine, very painfull, but I survived. I learned my lesson, wearing a hat, pas vrais mamy ;-)
Afther my feet, the musquitos and this I hope that luck will stand by me and won't suffer to muc anymore...
Anyway, I missed two days of workexperience because of this, monday and tuesday I slept whole day...
On thursday the neighbours did a BBQ we were with 30 I think, it was really fun being with all the students, no spang! (stress) Really a very injoyable evening! :)
Friday I was alone at worke. because one of the 3 took a day of and the ohter ones works on a different place on friday. At one point I sad there by myself... I thought, yes this is Suriname all the way...
In the evening I went out to have a drink, didn't make it to late because we decided to go shopping today! Wipiiieeee!! :)
Yes, I went crazy, 2 dresses and 2 pairs of sandales... And this only for 30€ wich is just to cheap! I'm going to leave everything here and by myself a whole new suitcase! Haha!
This afternoon, Jindra my roommate, who I get along with very well, got a phonecall from one of the patients asking if me and here wanted to come ot a wedding!!! :-) So tonight we are going to expierence a suriname wedding! All the news on my next post! Also I will tell you more on the Suriname way of live as message now is quit long allready!

Dolfins, Sun and Sea...
I ended my story yesterday on friday afternoon. Afther work experience, Jindra, Jozefien and myself we decided to finally do some girl shopping! :-)
We went to the maretraite mall, by bike of course! haha!
It was a very nice mall with lots of shops, but we have to go back because we have to be home before dark... I did buy a dress! Jipiie, a very nice blue, purple dress and this for only 8€!! This country is so cheap! Onbelievable!
In the evening we heard there was a antidiscriminationparty, we had to check that out! Just to see what it looked like. We took the taxi for only 1.50€ Haha! It was nice again to be surrounded by the locals, they really know how to party! :-) Unfortunatly it ended arround midnight so we decided to go to the pub, a nice way to start the weekend!
On saterday we decided to go on a dolfintrip, we took the boat, saw a lot of dolfins! Apparantly they don't come out so often and then we got to the beach, you could say we arrived on an unhabited island.... We spend a couple of hours relaxing...
When we got back, eveybody was sunbrund, although with did put on some sunblock...
We decided to go out and eat and to make it an early night, everybody was tired...
Unforunatly, I have big problems sleeping here.. It is not because of the warmth, I got used to it allready, I just don't know what it is... I just can sleep a whole night... really awfull!! Hope it will chance soon...
Today is relaxing day... :-) Don't really know what plans are going to be... We will see :-) No stress! :-)
Hope everybody is doing alright at the other end of the ocean, or even just above me.. :-) ?
Take care! x

Sex education and condoms... ;-)
I'm going to write two messages.. Because it has been a couple of days since a wrote and I have a lot to tell... :-)
On wednesday I went with the other student to go and see how they give sex education. We decided to ge there by bike, it wasn't so far away.. So I had another experience with the bicycle, haha! I jell quit a lot when the cars come to close and each time a car driver looks at you because you are a bakra (white person) and make that funny noise because you are a girl, I look really cross! haha! It is really terrible, when you walk or cycle men try to get your attention, if you need an ego boost, Suriname is the place to be! They have this really funny noise, anyway you just ignore!
But going to see where the sex education is, was another opportunity to watch another site of Paramaribo.
The sex education aswell, was very intresting. People are very open here. Wich makes it a lot easyer to talk about these things. Funny enough the first thing that stroke me was the room we where in, old, some chairs, a little desk, no bord or computer nothing. I said to the other student in Belgium, you would have to pc with projector, ppt ready to use... But in the end you don't need al these things with a good explanation and some pictures you get very far. The lady who gives the education does it with a lot of passion and people listen and ask question. At the end she layed some condoms on the desk and the employees (we were at the waterworks) weren't to shy to take some! Luckily! :-)
So that's enough for wednesday. On thursday nothing special happend at work experience.
We did go out to diner at a very nice sweet, typical suriname brasserie. It was very nice to be out and not have to cook for once.
Friday was funny, me and the other student started to read, and we decided to go and sit outside, but we saw that two employees were counting condoms. We asked if we could help so time would go faster! :-) It was so funny sitting counting condoms, 200 a bag. I think I counted 2500 condoms in only 2 hours time! Can someone beat my record at holding so many condoms in so little time ;-) I took some pictures and will put them online on sunday.
That is it for now, what happend friday afternoon, evening and saterday I will write tomorrow, or maby for you all today! Talk to you later!
x!
ps: Hope you all thought of Father's day on friday.. :-) I did! Tu sais que je t'aime papito!

AMAAAAAI!!
I'm so sorry it is in dutch but it has to go quick today... Sorry, my dear family, please ask somebody to translate...

Weekend!
First weekend in Suriname, time for adventure! :-)
On friday night we went out to the local pubs, 't vat and la caf! It was nice, we were with a big group of Belgian students. Unfortunaly my feet were killing me! My left foot was twice its size or maby even three time its size..! It was so swollen, I just couldn't move anymore. And the pain was moving up to my knees. Luckily there were some nice girls who went up to the bartender and asked for some ice to put on my feet, what a relief! It was nice relaxed evening.
Saterday we tried to sleep in late which wasn't very easy with al the noise and bright daylight. I managed to sleep until 10 am. During the day with did some shopping and we went swimming!! Finally! :-) It was so nice!
In the evening we went to the reggaefestival! Waaaauuw! Really amazing, just blend in with the locals, I think you could never experience this that way in Belgium.
Sunday was really relaxed,we sad in our garden, enjoyed the sun,...
In the evening I cooked our first Suriname meal, stuffed sopropo! Luckily I had some great sous-chefs. I don't want brag, but it was really nice. So dear mamy and papy, you always said I can't cook, I proved you wrong! :-) haha!
And today second week of workexperience started, for the moment, it is still very relaxed, I'm hoping for some actoin soon...
Talk to you soon!
Ps: Feet are doing much better! :-)
Pss: Nathalietje, teennagels zijn eindelijk gelakt! :-)

riding bikes, cooking and measuring bloodpressure..
First week of workexperience is over!! Waauuuww! So fast!! :-)
Today was a funny day! With all the stuff I brougth I got them a sphygomomanometer ( it's translated from google no idea if it is right.. voor de belgen, ne bloeddrukmeter.) But an electronic one.. They haven't seen it yet. Very funny, how excited they were and how they didn't really know how to use it.. So each time they messured someones bloodpressure, they asked me if they did it right.
We are with three students in the same organisation, one of them also works in an other organisation so she is only there 3 days a week, monday, tuesday, thursday. Today me and one of the other students had the opportunity to go and see the other building, I wonder when we will move...
Anyway, they gave me and the 2 others the task to reorganise the organisation! We have to make a new intake formular, a social map, a social doctorscart and more.. Also we have to reorganise the reception, the counseling and more... We are all very excited to start... Everything goes very slow here.. :-)
The bike rides are still an adventures! The riding on the left, I still have to get used to that... But in a couple of days, it will work!
Tonigth we are going to experience the Suriname nightlife! :-) I wonder what it will be... We are still very tired and you can't sleep very long, useally we wake up around 7am!! Very very early, even for me!
Maby tomorrow we will go swimming, we still have to look around Paramaribo to find the good shops! And there is a zoo we have to find!
Anyway that's all for now, we are going to cook, bami with chicken and vegetables! Wish me luck :-)
Talk to you soon! x x

Vanalles en meer!
Second day of work experience, nothing special I did except reading... Hopefully tomorrow a bit more action.. But they did like my skirt, mamy you know the red one from M&S we bougth 2 years a go and I shortend it myself... Oh and they sing and dance a lot her! Very funny :-)
But at least now I can tell you more about the life in Suriname.. It is not at all like Belgium, the streets don't have footpaths.. Well the do, but they are not from stone.. It sandy everywhere. The cars the really race arround and traffic lights are not very common.. The use their horn a lot! But I don't even respond any more... :-)
When we got to the supermarket we go to the chinese, because all the chinese people own a shop, the reason is that they came to Suriname and they had a lot of debts so now they are trying to repay...
Our hob is with gas, so normally we use matches to make it work.. The matches are so humit we can't lid it... Luckily we have very nice neighbours :-)
Oh and don't worry I do have rain here! When I came home from work It was raining so hard I came home all all wet! Normally we just have rain in the afthernoon, but not today...
Maby you would like to hear about the way we do our laundry! :-)
We have a washingmachine, but unfortunatly with cold wather.. And no rinsing skill.. So the firts time we wash with soap and the second we rinse again.. And dear papy the longest we came make it was is 15min!!!! :o So you can imaging no clean wash...
I'm trying to put photo's online.. Internet not really cooperating.. I'll try agian tomorrow..
All my love, x
ps: mamy still haven't spot any Dr. P. ;-)

1ste stagedag en indrukken
3de dag Surinamen, 1ste dag stage!
Zalig!

Slaap lekker!
A quick message before I'm really of to bed, I met my first cockroach!!! Ieeeuwww! I screamed and my roommates came to the rescue :)
And my feet are swollen, and painfull... :(
Sleep tight!
Ps
Bedankt, liefs!
Arrived/ Aangekomen
Dear all,
First of all I want to let you know I arrived safely in Suriname!
Secondly why am I writing in English. I have family all over the world and I also want them to be part of my adventurous! : ) And I want my cousin Anne to tell my gorgeous godson John what she godmother is all up to!
How did I get in Suriname? We left Mortsel at 3am in the morning. Thinking we were driving the right direction, my mamy was quit nervous, my sister took over de roadmap and we arrived on time in Schiphol airport. First I didn’t want to get out of the car, dear Alexia pulled me out. I was shaking all over because I was so nervous! Luckily my dearling sister was there to calm me. My papy had some tears, and me, I just cried! : )
Luckily we were with 7 to leave, so it was fun not being alone.
The journey was ok, quit long though... And I think of the 9h35 flight I slept 2 hours! It is a record for me!
Arriving in Suriname we got out of the plain and immediately we had the warmth greeting us! 30°c!! 86 F!! Yes, I’m happy!!
We had some very nice people waiting for us at the airport, oeff! Some very happy faces as well.
The trip from the airport to the house was great, we really had the time to look around, and see what Paramaribo had to offer.
The house looks great! Small but ok, very very hot, we have to pay extra for airco, so still thinking about that..
The nice sweet old couple came to our house and they took us shopping all ready, so the first basic stuff is done. Then they took us for a meal. They really are sweet. Tomorrow morning they are making us breakfast and taking us to the most important places.
Afther the meal they showed me and the other girls the places where we have to do our work experience, the place where I am going, they are working, so tomorrow I have to phone to ask them where I have to go.. A little bit of a panic... Hope it all get sorted.
Now, it is 8.40 pm or 00.37 am in Belgium.. So I am exhausted, very sorry for the mistakes in writing and not having a very coherent story.. It will be better in a couple of days.
To end I would like to thank everybody who phoned me or text me, the fact that you all thought of me on this big day means a lot!
Thank you all very much,
Dikke zoenen en veel liefs!
